This is the inside of the cafeteria with students using the space. At the moment, only half of the space is being used, but it still gets crowded. The lunch lines get so long and interfere with people eating lunch. Also, half the people push and shove to get to the lunch line while the other half is trying to get a seat. There is a giant space of the cafeteria that isn't being used, but even if it was being used, the lunch lines would still interfere.

you mentioned overcrowding in your summary - but this photo makes it look like there is plenty of room. be sure to document the existing problems that your design hopes to solve. it will good to see the contrast between the old and the new.
