Recreation of Mira Loma High School Cafeteria

09/19/12
The inspiration of making a two level cafeteria came from the building on the beach. As you can see in the inspirational picture there is a glass balcony which we incorporated in our sketches. It not only looks pleasing to the eye but it makes you want to be there enjoying the view/fresh air. The ones wanting to go upstairs in the balcony will have to use the stairs or the elevator. Also we were inspired to use bigger and wider glass windows which will give better lightning.

Good layout so far. Keep up the good work. :)

It would be great to see a floor plan of the existing cafeteria. That would make it easier to see what improvements you've made when you finish the project. An existing floor plan would also help you diagram the space to see certain attributes of the space that you might not normally see. Architects use existing floor plans (when applicable) throughout the design/building process, but especially when brainstorming. Check out this link for a great example of diagrams made from plans (under the "Collect Information" and "Brainstorm Ideas" headings): http://discoverdesign.org/discover/spaces

I look forward to seeing your progress!

Much more information is needed.

Unfortunately we could not find a floor plan of the current cafeteria, but we will keep on looking. Also we will update the current sketch up to show or improvement and development.

We apologize for the delay but we will definitely have more pics of the updated sketch up coming soon.

We like how you incorpoated the windows from your inspiration. Also with all of the windows in your building what do you plan to do about the amount of heat that will bring into your structure?

We apologize for not including the types of windows we are going to use for our cafeteria. We did realize that especially here in California the summers are very hot and the inside temperature in the cafeteria rises- along with the cooling bill. After researching which glass windows blocks heat better we came across low-E (low-emissivity) glass windows. It blocks out the summer sun but lets in the winter sun. Also we will plant trees in front of the building because trees are a good way to shade a building.

and thank you for your comment!

You could always draw your own rough floor plan of the existing cafeteria! This is a very common thing to do when we don't have access to existing drawings.

I really like your sketches! It really shows me that you're brainstorming about what the new cafeteria could be like.

Thank you for your positive input we really appreciate it.
