This is a sketch of how we want the seating area and tables to be shaped and structured.

Comments

The tables look really interesting. What is changing in terms of the larger structure and layout? Remember now(during the brainstorming phase) is when you should let you imaginations run wild. Throw everything you've got on e table whether it seems practical or not, then go back and find the very best ideas to develop.

Does your second story open to the floor below so people can see each other. What are you changing about the serving area to get rid of this lines? Where are the sustainable features? Sometimes it hard to get this all into one drawing or into a program like sketchup, so now is the time to do thumbnail sketches that just explain your ideas so everyone understands, like your aerial (plan) view of the table. That is spot on.

What is in the middle of the room? I could use more detail in sketches to see more of your ideas- more enlarged drawings like your tables. What innovative kitchen designs have you used? What will allow for more food, more diversity, faster lines, maybe entertainment while kids eat and wait for food? Large TV screens with announcements? Maybe iphone charging stations at tables? wi-fi to study while you eat?
Where is your logo brand in this area?

Well our detailed sketch is tagged along with our sketch up and is fairly tiny, so you can't really see all the details. We will re-upload it along with the changes we make along the way. But to answer your question about the second floor being able to look onto the first floor, no. The second floor is a whole floor to itself. Although, we have a skylight (the rectangle in the middle of the room), which will go through the entire building, all the way to the roof, so you will be able to look into that and see the first floor. We didn't really change the layout of the cafeteria, we just created more space and expanded. As far as food, diversity and faster lines go, we have that covered. Each food cart on the first floor will be a different type of ethnic food and we re-designed the way the lines are formed in order for them to take up less space and create less traffic. Our plan is to have the carts be circular, so that the lines form around the cart and doesn't expand into the seating area, like it currently does. We also planned on having a cafe and vending machines upstairs, so that the first floor is not the only place to purchase food, therefore reducing traffic. Upstairs is our more laid back, chill area for students to go, but yet will have multiple purposes when school is not in session. On one side of the room we have a bunch of storage space so that we can easily relocate furniture if the space is needed for other activities. We also plan on having a huge projector cascade from the ceiling, so that we can watch tv, suport business meetings etc. To incorporate our logo onto the second floor we will have a mural of a skyline on the back wall. It will serve as a piece of artwork and tags into the kind of environment that we want to portray.

With the amount of tables you currently have it doesn't seem that there will be enough room for all the students who currently visit the lunch room and how will the lunch lines be managed?
Director of Community Relations - Mitchell Zaborski

To Mitchell:

Keep in mind that we have two whole floors that we can fill with seating, this is only the first floor. As far as the lines go, the cashier and food pick up is in a circular shape, so the students will go around it, which decreases how far out the line will go. Currently, the lines extend into the seating and our new design will reduce that issue. Thank you for your feedback and I hoped that answered your question!
