LDesign a New School Athletic Pavilion

Remember that sunshine in the winter time does help to reduce heating costs in the winter but will drastically increase cooling cost in the spring, summer and fall. Any time you propose a daylight solution, make sure to include exterior shading or some other means of evacuating heat gain.

Please provide some plans and sections. Especially since the connection to the existing building and the circulation by the student body is so critical to the concept, "Feet" or "On your feet". Show me how the average student, on their feet, can enjoy your building.

It would be really great to understand how the weather data you researched in conjunction with this design played in to the building, what does 44" of rain mean to a site with a very large parking lot or impervious roof building and what does all that New Jersey sunshine, or lack there of, mean to the students and teachers inside your building?

Nice Graphic and good representation of the sun's path. Make sure to think about what this information means for your building and the buildings adjacent. Try to always identify your proposed intervention in any site analysis so that viewers can see what you are proposing. Don't worry, for early site analysis and design development a very basic outline is actually better than a fully detailed "Building".

Hi- I am a jury member and architect in Indianapolis (from Chicago). Good job with your research into weather and the sun- a critical part of the design process. It looks as though that was your portion of the research as part of a group project- so for the competition entry you could use a lot more information about the problems/needs of the existing gym- photos, interviews, descriptions, etc.

Good job building the model, too- I would like to see more details inside, and how the new gym solved problems or provided solutions to needs of the current gym.
