Summary

The new remolded cafeteria at Mira Loma High School will have the entrance wall made completely out of glass, the glass will be tinted, allowing less heat from the sun to enter in. The entrance will have three double doors for easier access to the cafeteria, and to prevent less traffic outside the cafeteria. The glass allows sunshine to light up the cafeteria, but the tint allows the cafeteria to stay cool without using to much air condition. The glass entrance gives the cafeteria a nice and modern look. On the rooftop of the cafeteria, the team decided to have a vegetable garden and on the side have gazebos. There will also be a fountain on the garden and the water flowing from the fountain will also be the water that is used to water the garden. For students that need community hours, we will set up a student body that will go up to the garden to pull weeds and water the garden. This will also benefit the student because they will receive their community hours and have hand on experience. The inspiration to put a garden on the cafeteria came from building located on 343 Sansome Street, San Francisco, CA. The cafeteria is a two story building, the inspiration came from East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. The two floors are not separated, giving easy access for the staff to view the first floor, as well as the second. The seating that will be used in the cafeteria is 70 round tables (80’’x80’’). They are a light tan color, and the official name is “Fushion Maple”. This color is purposely chosen to create a nature feel to the cafeteria, which will relax the stressful students. There is seating for the 560 students. The stairway in the new cafeteria leading to the second floor was inspired from the De Young Museum. The team really liked the size, texture, and color of the staircase in the museum, and decided to place a similar one in the new Mira Loma cafeteria. Also, for an easier access to the second floor and the rooftop we added an elevator into the cafeteria, but in case of a fire, we have a staircase from the rooftop that can also be used as an exit. The team is hoping to incorporate the community into the new cafeteria, therefore, there will be nutrition classes every three months for the community. It will be a low cost event allowing plenty of people to come and also the cost will help the school offer more community events. Another way the school can make money is by renting out the cafeteria during weekends, summer vacation, and holidays. When the tables that are in the cafeteria are put away into the storage rooms, there is plenty of room to have community dances, weddings, concerts, meeting, variety of workshops, dinners, and many other activities that can occur in the cafeteria for the communities usage. For these community events, parking has to be available. When an community event will be occurring, we will open the student parking lot. This parking lot will be opened because it is the closest to the cafeteria, and it will be easy access and not a far distance to walk for the people coming in and out of the cafeteria.
