2013 national competition project | Library Redesign #160

05/14/13
This rendering depicts the more comfortable section of the library. It seats at least 16 people in four groups. It is separated from the rest of the library by short bookcases (which come from the existing library) for a quieter, more work-focused atmosphere; the isolated nature of the area also allows for convenient book storage. It is easily visible from the librarian's station. This section provides comfortable accommodations for students working in groups or studying during their free period.

Comments

The partial isolation of this area as you have mentioned is one key component of how it works well. The lighting could utilize probably some pendants to help with illuminating the tables and downlights for the wall stacks. An architectural feature using lighting as elements that break the plane of the ceiling and top of the bookshelves.

Overall, this area has a good sense of enclosure but yet allows for connectivity to the rest of the library, both physically and visually.
