Westlake High School Athletic Pavilion Re-design

Swimming is another sport that has to go to a separate facility in order to practice (the local recreation center) but often has troubles reserving reasonable times (sometimes requires athletes to get up long before school to practice or to arrive very late at night). An on campus pool would be a fantastic way to counter this. After looking at some of the more state of the art pools such as the Notting Hill Gym Clayton swimming pool (top let) and the Hilton Beijing Capital Airport Hotel pool (top right) both include two very key similarities: tons of natural light. Not only does this lower the cost of heating the pool, but overall, it adds an almost outdoor feel to the room regardless of the (most likely snowy) weather. After doing a little research on atriums and glass walls, I recalled a field trip to the Cleveland Museum of Art. Their newly installed atrium is truly stunning and allows a slightly translucent light to fill the room.
