In addition to offering an educational experience in Pre-Vegas history, Springs Preserve provides the visitor a scope of Desert living – the variety plants and animals which make the Mojave Desert what it is – and environmental awareness. Of the 180-arce campus, eight of those acres is dedicated to lush botanical gardens. The Cactus Gardens at the Springs Preserve includes an abundant variety of cacti and plants that are suited to live in the desert; looking at their website, I was able to search plants that would be able to survive in my pocket park well without requiring a profuse amount of water and much upkeep. In addition, the pathways in Springs Preserve offer an example Desert landscape. There’s a balance of ample foliage and clear and spacious pathways and patio areas. Lastly, I took note of the textures, materials, and color scheme of the gardens in Springs Perserve. The careful choices reflect the desert, which I would like to include in my pocket park.
