Honorable Mention - Top 10 Finalist - Christian Orme - Redesign Your School Athletic Pavilion | 2014 National High School Architecture Competition #147

Summary

The following images show various sketches for different interior and exterior spaces of the proposed design, demonstrating how the current gym's flaws (listed in "The Design Problem" in the "Overview" tab) can be corrected. For visualization purposes, I have included several inspiration boards that provide a conceptual idea of the materials and aesthetic features the new design will encompass. The different principles of the pavilion illustrated in this section serve to promote a contemporary 'oasis in the desert' theme, showcase color contrast with the natural environment to reinforce the "cooling" atmosphere of the space, incorporate aspects of universal design to make the space accommodating to those with disabilities and special needs, promote sustainable building techniques through material selections and green-architectural techniques (see "Exterior Building Material Collage" under the "Brainstorm Ideas" tab for LEED certifications), and encourage an architectural breakthrough for a typical high school athletic center.
