Honorable Mention - Top 10 Finalist - Christian Orme - Redesign Your School Athletic Pavilion | 2014 National High School Architecture Competition #147

Summary

The following images show various aspects of A-TECH's current gym as well as its surrounding campus and landscaping strategies. The majority of this information about the space came from interviewing staff members and photographing the interior and exterior of the gym's features for visual and conceptual purposes. After speaking with several students and faculty that frequently make use of the space, a general consensus has been made that both the interior and exterior of the gym need an expansion of "playing room" and an increase in specialized space for classrooms and administrative offices (some students even suggested implementing a cafe-type relaxation area that doubles as a lobby and waiting room for after school events). After mentioning the possibility of completely redoing the current gym into a more contemporary pavilion that features the majority of the student body's request, the majority of the staff and students agree that - in theory - the most effective way to make proper use of the relatively vast campus space would be to begin a new athletic center, one that encompasses all aspects of student life, an element that the current gym fails to meet.
