Advanced Pocket Park
|In Las Vegas, Nevada, many pocket parks exist on the strip and residential areas for residents to enjoy and have fun. The purpose of is to promote physical development and socialization of the city's children. Las Vegas’s scorching hot weather requires a small recreational park for adults and their children to escape the heat. Many incidents of overheated incidents with children playing outside their homes cause parents to consider building enclosed parks for safety and cooling for children. The empty lot on Garces Ave and 6th Street can use as a pocket park for families and people to enjoy. The lack of green space within the neighborhood calls for an advanced pocket park. The advanced pocket park includes more of a modern approach to handle the heat, such as natural wind through specialized enclosed walls that could direct wind within the park. In addition, a lot of overhead coverings would cool down the heated ground and allow children to freely enjoy themselves through slides and family barbecue. Ventilation is extremely important for dry and hot atmospheres, therefore utilizing cooling material selections such as metal roofing that can radiate sunlight and keep the space cool. The compacted neighborhood influence the overall design of the park and it has to accommodate for accessibility.

Really like the goals your park is giving off for kids, i can relate because nowadays rather than going outside and enjoying socialization with others or exercising, kids would rather stay inside and play video games or use social media on phones or computers, so its good that your park is a place to promote the outdoors for kids.
The overall goal of your pocket park is spectacular in my opinion. I think it's wonderful that you're putting a focus on getting kids outside and playing rather than putting them off to the side. It's something they really need.

Elword. Nice job on this park park project. I enjoyed reviewing your work and seeing how your ideas developed throughout. Your writing in the Overview and your investigation into neighborhood demographics (in the Collect Info phase) shows that you're thinking about who the park should be for and what types of features it should include. I would have liked to see a few more images of the surrounding neighborhood, however, and ideally photos that were your own, taken on site. Your use of the Las Vegas sign as an inspiration is clever and subtle - not over the top, as would have been easy to do. Kudos on that.

Your Final Design shows you're thinking about a lot of the issues you first investigated - which is great. But it would have been useful to see how the park fit into the neighborhood/intersection. A few more days spent on the digital model, building out a little bit of the surrounding buildings would help us see the context of your design.

Overall, nice work!
