High School Library Redesign

04/25/13
In order to facilitate quiet studying in the library without creating an oppressive atmosphere for all, I propose adding a number of individual study booths. These would be located near the main book storage location in the library, in the back, removed from the noisier front section. This would increase library capacity, especially during finals week, when the library currently must limit student access to maintain silence. The bookcases themselves are arranged perpendicular to the back wall, so that librarians have a full view of the aisles between shelves, where kids may be tempted to hide. Next to the bookcases are comfortable chairs, where students can read and relax.
