Bridging the Gap: Redesigning High Tech High School's Athletic Pavilion

03/12/14
I used the property lines map to determine which building sites would be the most beneficial. The areas in red are existing structures, and thus, any construction by or over them could mean either creating structures as additions or demolishing the structure. The area in violet works because it is close to the main entrance to the school. However, it is adjacent to a very busy street, hindering the sanctuary I plan to create. The area in light orange works because the connection to the school could be more efficient. There is also much more building space. However, it is closer to flood spots and requires the demolition of existing structures. Ultimately, I think that developing in the light orange area would be most beneficial. It provides me with flexibility in design and would help achieve my vision of sanctuary much more clearly. Although it requires demolition, removing the current athletic facility would eliminate unnecessary space - something very positive going forward. I will need to work towards solutions that work around the flood spots so as to not hinder people's enjoyment in the structure.

Great diagram to show relationships! I think developing a solution for the flood spot would be a great step. Demolition is okay in a school project. Dream big!

Thank you, Ms. Robinson! It's very important to get a good grasp on the flood spots because during severe storms, buildings that are not well-equipped could see damages. I've been working hard to create a solution for it, which should be up soon!
