Renovation and Expansion of Wannan Gym at Sidwell Friends School - 2014 National High School Architecture Competition - Nikhil Chaudhuri

This video shows an example of how I used regulating lines throughout my design process. In the video I design the shape for a little piece of garden that will hold a tree. Using points in the surrounding space and other dominant guide lines I was able to develop a shape essentially created by its surroundings. I used this approach frequently throughout my design process. Although I had a pretty good idea of where everything should be and what everything should like like, the specific angles and placements were left to regulating lines. Even some of my major decisions earlier on and the dominant forms were determined by regulating lines (see Brainstorm Ideas). I hope that this approach will create a unity and continuity in my design as everything is essentially created from everything else, and many of the forms share angles, endpoints, etc.
