Pocket Park
05/20/15
To cope with the desert heat, I made sure to include as many trees as possible. Trees provide plenty of shade throughout the park and they improve the aesthetics of the park as well. Also, while it may seem like there's a lot of other plants in there that would take a lot of watering, ground covers actually help reduce drought conditions. The plants the cover the ground help protect the moisture in the soil by preventing evaporation of the water in the soil, ensuring the ground doesn't become too hard; and by having their own water evaporated, help to cool down the general atmosphere.

Adaptive Reuse
Architects often find creative ways to reuse old structures that are no longer in use. Check out how old rail lines were adapted to create New York's High Line and Chicago's 606.
