The Park
05/22/15
These are the 3 waterfront seating areas. The top picture is located on the southwest corner of the park, near the entrance. The seats are wooden steps. The space also includes a water feature where visitors can dip their feet into the water to cool off, which is especially convenient for New Jersey's hot summers. The middle picture shows the concrete seating area. This is located on the north side of the park, adjacent to the tree structure and cafe. Here the steps/seats are fewer and thus higher than in the previous area. Therefore in order to get to the bottom level comfortably, one can use the gentle slope located at the center. The bottom picture is the grass areas in the east side, at the tip of the park. Unlike the other seating areas, this one is more like a hill. There are still multiple levels, however they are not as distinct as the steps in the other two areas. With this shape, visitors can thus recline back and still get a view of the environment.

Adaptive Reuse
Architects often find creative ways to reuse old structures that are no longer in use. Check out how old rail lines were adapted to create New York's High Line and Chicago's 606.
