Recreation of Mira Loma High School Cafeteria

10/04/12
(cafeteria sketch up progress) This shot shows the progress that our team has made on sketch up. We choose the colors of fall, like in Starbucks, for the walls in our cafeteria design. This shot also shows the garden and the glass windows. Our team will be working through out the week to finish the rest of sketch up, so please stay tuned.

Comments

Earlier you had expressed a concern about acces to the building and "humanjams". I don't see expanded access with this sketch-up. Remember we have a climate that allow 8-9 month semi outdoor use of space.

Yes we understand your concern and that huge space surrounded by a glass railing will be a balcony allowing the students to sit outside if they wish. The balcony will be covered by a roof to provide shade. The windows will also be double panel to keep out the hot air but let in the sun.

Tracee Brooks, EIS-- Is the garden accessible by students? Will there be an entrance to the cafeteria through the garden? What is the actual size of the garden? It seems pretty small in the sketch-up. Great work so far guys!

Yes the students will be able to access the garden, but only from the outside. The reason for this is because the garden will also be open to the community after school hours and so as to prevent inconveniences or cafeteria damage you can only enter and exit from the outside. The garden is 12 meters in diameter, which is 39.37 feet. Our team believes that this is an appropriate size for a garden. We don't want to make the garden huge and take over the students seating. Thank you for your input and comments.

If student can only access the garden from the outside the why is there an door leading into the garden?

Director of Interior Design- Rimma Sadyrova
I don't understand what you mean. The only way to access the garden or to exit the garden is through that one door.

Is this redesign on one floor or multi? I expressed concern about people entering the building from the outside and the "humanaggedon"
Thanks for the expanded sketches.

Director of Interior Design- Rimma Sadyrova
This is a redesign of a one story cafeteria into a two story building. The building will have two double doors in the front and two single doors in the back, mostly for emergencies. We understand that you are concerned about traffic in entering the building but I assure you that two double doors is enough. We won't have any human jams because students all come from different directions and parts of the school so there will always be a flow of traffic and no jams.

Teja Johnson-EUI: Will the community be able to rent out the space for personal use? For example to host an event parties(etc.)?

Outside of school hours, the community will have access to the second floor to study, meet up with some one, etc. We haven't thought about renting out the space, but we will definitely consider it.
