Recreation of Mira Loma High School Cafeteria

(different choices of seating) These are images of the sitting area by the windows. We will have bar tables and bar chairs against all the windows. The same method will be used on the second floor(more pics coming up). Our team noticed that many students enjoy eating lunch outside, we will have a balcony and benches outside build for that purpose(pic coming up). But when it's raining or just to cold the students can enjoy the outside by the huge glass windows that block out the cold and heat, but provide the view. Also we provided simple square tables for students who do not enjoy bar tables. These tables could also be moved together to fit more people. The potted flowers on the tables can perhaps be from our community garden and provide a lovely decorative touch to the cafeteria. Our teams Director of Energy was inspired by the recycling facilities where you get payed for recycling. He decided to promote recycling and also to keep the new cafeteria clean, we will have garbage/recycling cans that will pay the students for every item they recycle and throw away.

I'm glad that you're thinking about the types of seating you might be able to incorporate into the new design. Have you counted to make sure you have enough seating for all the students? Also, it seems you have an exorbitant amount of space in the middle. It almost looks like a giant dance floor area. If this isn't your intent, then it'd be nice to see some seating schemes that utilize more of the space. It would also be helpful to see the cafeteria from a person's perspective. In Sketchup, if you use the "Position Camera" tool, and click on the floor, it will set your eye height to 5'-6". You can then position the camera with the "Look Around" tool without adjusting your eye height. Once you set up a few views in that perspective, you can start to think about designing your ceiling.

Thank you so much for your input. No we didn't want the cafeteria to appear as a dance floor and all that space originally will be filled with tables and chairs. The shots above are just examples of how the seating area will look like. And that you for suggesting and explaining the uses of the sketch up tools we will make sure to use them.

I like how there are different options for seating and not just the few tables like what we have in our cafeteria here at Mira Loma. Your design will actually allow students to eat in the cafeteria comfortably and enjoy themselves.

I like how you have multiple seating arrangements for the cafeteria. But how are you going to fill the open space? what is going to go there? maybe think of moving the seats in one area.

Thank you Amanda Russell for your input. To answer your question, we will have more tables filling that open space (please look in Final Design Tab).
