<SLIDE #1: Initial Sketches> (A.) Originally, I intended to add another door on the west side of the building that would serve as an exit. After interviewing Mr. Bicking, the facilities manager at Sage Hill School, I found the plan not viable because of the semi-permanent kitchen equipments that are currently in place. To completely demolish the existing kitchen for the purpose of adding another door did not seem to be a viable solution. (B.) From my interview with Ms. Shank, I learned about the possibility of adding a sort of "canopy" structure and/or creating a coffee-shop-like place for students. Because of the lack of availability of space on campus for such purposes, I had to brainstorm other ideas. (C.) I noticed that there were some discrepancies between the equipment plan in the blueprint and the current kitchen layout, so I made a simple sketch to help me brainstorm more viable solutions. (D.) Considering that it has only one door and a few windows, adding another door on the northern side of the wall seemed to be a good idea. There are no extensive electric- or pumbing- system on this wall, and it also happens to be facing the hallway with high traffic. (E.) These sketches were made while discussing possible solutions with Mr. Bicking. The lower diagram shows a sketch of the spaces I could most easily manipulate, indicated with hash marks.
