<SLIDE 4: Interview with Sapphire Staff> Throughout the month of April, I interviewed the staff at Sapphire. From these interviews I learned that the traffic flow was also one of Sapphire's primary concerns. I proposed the ideas I had sketched in <SLIDE 1>, and we settled on the idea of opening another entrance as I sketched. Eric and Danielle, two of the main staff members at Sapphire, agreed that converting the current storage area to floor space and the office area to a storage area, respectively, are feasible options and would improve traffic flow. The idea of adding another floor to the building for dry storage, office, locker rooms, and employee lounge also received positive reception. (A.) I went up on the roof of the cafeteria to get a better sense of how the cafeteria building was connected to the adjacent gym. The experience also helped me imagine what the floor plan of the second floor should look like. Danielle, a Sapphire staff, and Kyle, one of the facilities managers at Sage Hill School, accompanied me to the roof (top left). (B.) The current office/storage area. As can be inferred from the photos, the space is very cluttered. I intend to solve this problem by moving the office to the second floor and using the current office space entirely as a storage room. The Sapphire staff also requested that I include spaces for file cabinets in my design, which will also go upstairs. (C.) I also took a quick survey of the kitchen. I took this photos inside the walk-in fridge and freezer. Each ingredients are labeled by date to ensure freshness.
