Dover-Root Park: 2015 Pocket Park Design Centered on Community Values and a Greener Future

Robert E. Venable Park is located in Brooklyn and not only caters to younger kids with a playground, but to older children with a skate park and to adults by their addition of community gardens. This park caught my attention because they are focused on capitalizing upon nature to maintain it, specifically through storm water conservation to keep it on site. It is collected and stored underground through chutes and then can be redistributed through that same system in times of low rainfall. They have also recently incorporated a volleyball court and exercise equipment. It also has green design features that reduce heat absorption in the ground to keep the park a cool spot during summer (in more than one way!). Their arrangement of trees is also intended to enhance natural lighting at all hours.
