After I stumbled upon this area on a nature show on the National Geographic channel, my initial reaction to Sakura Park was one of awe. Built by the Committee of Japanese Residents, the park was created with Japanese landscape harmony ideals in mind. Aside from being colorful and themed around cherry trees, it incorporates land, water, and open air areas as well as a roughly symmetric layout with a central pavilion. The designers made sure that paths for running, walking, and biking, were lined with these colorful trees and benches on either side so not only did this park incorporate an ethnic underlying theme that tied all of the elements of the park together, but they made it accessible for those who came to exercise on the paths, play in the open fields, and to simply relax and have a unique view of nature.
