Westlake City Community Park
04/30/15
This is Laurel Pocket Park, located in California. The park was built in an urban environment, in honor of Laurel Copley. The main reasons I looked at this park first are to point out some of its flaws. A pocket park is supposed to be a place to get away from your urban environment. However, a distinct lack of foliage means that all of its surroundings are incredibly visible from the park. Also, the lack of greenery just makes the users of the park not feel that the are in an area far away from their normal urban concrete setting. Also, as far as anyone can see, there isn't much to do in this park. No structures are visible for differing activities, and there isn't even enough open space to just run around, as it is all broken up by a melancholy brick path. This is a good place to start as it shows me many things I need to stay away from. Information gathered at http://www.laurelpocketpark.org/.

Bicycle Cities
Biking is a popular -& green!- way to travel. Yet if there is nowhere to lock up your bike, people may be discouraged to use their bike to get around. Did you know that you can Request a new bike rack in your area? Cities all over the U.S. have multiple types of bike racks they can install and all you have to do is submit a request.
