Architect Seven: A Re-design of Mira Loma High School’s Cafeteria

09/17/12
This is the more improved sketch up design we have. As you can see the structure on the far left is the first floor. It contains Storage for the kitchen and for tables and chairs. It has an office as well as an elevator. It has a girl and boy bathrooms. In the middle is the structure for the second floor. it also has another storage space for the second floor. It has more seating and also more space for students to sociallize. The outer part of the second floor is a balcony and also more seating for students to get fresh air. The structure all the way to the right is the third floor and will be a Garden. It has solar panels on the side. On the second and third floor there will be skylights. Also the front of the building on the first floor will be mostly all windows. Please comment if you have any questions! As far as the community garden, it will be on the roof. We will have fruit and vegetable plants in planters. The reason for fruit and vegetable plants is, one of the concerns about the cafeteria remake was the produce cost. Ms. Dunn Goligowski said that produce is very expensive, so that is the reason behind it.The community is involed with the school being able to fundraise and sell the food they produce, also people from the community can buy a spot to plant they're own plants and donate to the school.

Comments

What more information can you provide? Entrance, surrounding buildings, landscape, interior?

Great progress so far! I agree with the above comment. There needs to be some context, not only to help you design but for people to understand the surroundings.
I took some time and found some precedents that may help you further your design:

Enjoy!

What you see above is just the basics of our design. At this moment we are adding windows, doors, and the 2nd floor. We haven't quite decide on the landscaping surrounding the building but we do have some ideas of what to insert into the design plan. We will get started on that very soon.

Thank You,
Architect 7

I look forward to the new design. Until then its really hard to see how you are moving forward with this redesign.

Progress looks great! You guys are really starting to think about form. I know you guys are still at the beginning stages of your design and you are figuring out your program and floor plans. But further into the design, please consider structure and the thicknesses of your interior walls. Your walls look a little too thick but I could be wrong. Maybe it's for acoustical reasons? Looking forward to further development of your design!

Thank you for your comment. We are still trying to figure out how to use Sketch Up, thick walls were not in our plans but we will thin them out as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Architect 7

Please take a look at the edited information on the third picture of the Collect Info tab! I re-edit it and added more information about my part.
