Architect Seven: A Re-design of Mira Loma High School’s Cafeteria

09/05/12
This is a picture of the cafeteria while it is being used by the students. As you can see, it is very crowded and there aren't any clear pathways for the students to follow. Students often bump into each other which may cause arguments to strike. My task is to find a way to decrease the traffic in the cafeteria. One of the things I think will be a good solution to that issue is having enough space between the serving area and seating area. I will also make sure to have enough room between tables in order for the students to move freely and not cause traffic. -Ikram Magzoub; Director of Interior Decor.

Great photo of the cafeteria in action!

As Director of Community Relations I want the cafeteria to be accessible to the community after school hours and on weekends. Sports like drill/dance and wrestling can use the cafeteria for practice and study hall. Once a month, we can hold a soup kitchen and feed the community using the produce from the garden that we grow. Keeping the cafeteria open longer will also mean we will need to have insurance, extra super vision, electricity, and of course janitors. Instead of hiring more janitors, we can eliminate detentions and Saturday schools and have the kids clean the cafeteria after school and over the weekend with the super vision and help of the already existing janitors.
