Architect Seven: A Re-design of Mira Loma High School’s Cafeteria

10/02/12
This is a picture of the new food service area. Our team and some of the adults were concerned about the self-check out counters, thus, I decided to not include them anymore. To decrease the chances of students stealing food, I added cashiers where students quickly scan their student ID while an adult monitors them and make sure the system works correctly. The counters are well spaced out for the handicapped students to be able to go through the lines just like all the other students. Also, I made the glass wall between the kitchen and the serving area tinted from the students view so that no one can see what is going on in the kitchen. However, from the kitchen staff's view, the glass is not tinted so that they are able to view the serving area and know when they need to take out more food.As you can see in the picture, After listening to what the needs of the kitchen staff are, I made sure to add various different equipments in the kitchen such as, sinks, dishwashers, prep-tables, and so on. I also made sure to have a lot of room for the kitchen staff to be able to move freely in the kitchen. -Ikram Magzoub; Director of Interior Decor.

This is a very smart Idea making it so much easier for others to get food quickly. Just make sure that its far enough that it can be handicap friendly but not too big that it could crowd in a lot of people making it hard to get out with your food.

Will there be any adults on duty to deal with technical issues as well as to make sure that students don't walk past the machine without paying? Elite Innovative Solutions - Mitchell Zaborski

Thank you! Yes, it definitely is handicap friendly.

Yes, we will have adults monitoring every counter as each student quickly scans their ID card.
