The Art District Arboretum
|Design Problem: In downtown Las Vegas' Arts District, one can find an eclectic mix of art galleries, one-of-a-kind stores, and quirky restaurants that are just a short walk or a quick bike ride away. While the the Art District is rich in potential, it is also has limited access to resources. The small community suffers from a lack of environmentally friendly options and kinship. By providing a safe and reliable lot to store bikes, residents and visitors are encouraged to adopt a more environmentally friendly method of transportation. Coupled with the improved irrigation system the community will bloom thanks to these eco-friendly options. Even with the increased efforts towards the environment, the district must have a sense of communion to truly prosper. The project attempts to resolve this issue by providing a park with multiple areas for the community to grow. Park visitors can play chess with one another, examine the central Mural, and experience an Arboretum - which is a display of trees and other primarily woody plants. To increase accessibility for neighborhood residents, artists, and visitors, the implementation of a pocket park project that encourages the district to grow as an environmentally-friendly and connected community is paramount.
Mission: To encourage and build on a growing bike community in the city by providing safe bike racks. To provide two types of sustainable landscape within the park, with unique benefits to the lot including hardscapes (with unique concrete pavers, seating, and activities) and softscapes (as a place to share knowledge about fruiting and nectaring trees in the desert). To provide an ecological support to productive tree landscapes. To encourage locals to enjoy the Arts District for the culture it provides, and to bring the community together.

I like your park. Everything is nice looking, and the colors you used are pleasing to look at. Good job.
nice mission statement
This project is outstanding example of developing a project from early design sketches to a fully modeled solution. Really appreciate the 3D views of the water wall. Excellent example combining the art of design with technical development.
