Pocket Park Design: Wilted Lettuce Park | 2015 National High School Architecture Competition
|Having a park in your neighborhood is a gateway to a sense of community and exploration. In my neighborhood our local park is often used for a plethora of creative outlets including artistry, parties, and even Sunday school! In the Downtown Las Vegas area, this sense of creativity and community is certainly lacking. The downtown area needs something people can rely on to congregate and share awareness of what’s going on in their community. What better a place for a communities creative outlets and individuality to shine than a public park.A space people can adventure, a place to avoid the busy and bustling streets of fabulous Las Vegas. Robert Smithson, an American artist who was famous for his use of photography in relations to sculptures and land art once said,"The scenic ideals that surround even our national parks are carriers of a nostalgia for heavenly bliss and eternal calmness." A local garden opposite a stage would be a perfect addition to the Downtown Las Vegas area and a combination to surely bring rise to a new level of artistic outlets. The Wilted Lettuce park will be the ultimate experience of community, serenity, and creative exploration. It will be the mixture of calmness with the garden; and a twist of the wild side with the stage where local artists can perform their music, dance performances, or any other way in which a member community wishes to share their artistic vision. Vegas is in dire need of some calm within the storm of neon lights and scrambling tourists. The Wilted Lettuce Park will provide a new and peaceful experience to Las Vegans and tourists alike..
